Hotchkiss Motor Cars

A family interest in Hotchkiss Motor Cars stems from my father and grandfather.

1912 Hotchkiss Sedan Model AB. 1914 James Flood Body.

A 1912 Hotchkiss sedan with an older partial restoration has been in the family since 1927.

This is a Model AB 1912 engine and chassis with a James Flood sedan body circa 1914. My understanding is that the body work was prepared for Flood’s 1914 display show of their carriage works.

The vehicle was apparently purchased by a farmer from Hay in New South Wales and was used there until c1927/28 when it was sold to Brodribb Brothers (Automotive Sales). It is feasible that Brodribbs’ were the original supplier of the Hotchkiss chassis in 1912 as they held stock of Hotchkiss at that time.

The vehicle was purchased from Brodribbs’ by Max Howden in order to be used during his honeymoon which was in April 1928. After that the vehicle was in the hands of either Max or his brother Jock for years, prior to being stripped down by Arthur (Bill) Howden in the late 1950s’ and worked on as a restoration project in the 1960’s.

Work stopped on the vehicle in the 1970’s due to lack of funds and the vehicle has been dry stored ever since. It’s first outing from being shedded was in July 2024 for the photography included here.

A video walk around the car in 3 parts.

There are lots of parts, chassis’s, engine blocks, and assorted car parts that may or may not be Hotchkiss or Napier.

At the time of posting, February 2025, the vehicle and all parts are available for sale. Looking for offers.
